You're probably looking at this bluetooth speaker the same way I did -the namesake, the aesthetics and, well, the namesake. Let me save you some trouble -if aesthetics is at the top of your list, then it's a pretty cool looking bluetooth speaker. Some of the others look a bit cheap and clunky so I get it. I personally wanted something that would look nice on my desk and could play loud a- music with above average sound quality while I'm doing chores... or exercising...or entertaining guest...or just jammin' out to my favorite tunes. It does ALL of that fairly well. BUT...and it's a biggie...this thing CONSTANTLY looses bluetooth connectivity. That's if you don't chuck the damn thing out the window during the set-up phase which they have completely over-complicated. You can look at the reviews elsewhere and see that it needs to be 'reset' often. It's even stated in their troubleshooting guide like it's a totally normal thing to have to do over and over and over and over and...you get the picture. It also has a loud a- voice that says, "this device is not registered. For help, go to its companion app." Yes, I have it memorized because it happens ALL. THE. TIME. When I'm not using it, in the middle of the night for no apparent reason, whenever there's a moment of silence it'll blast this message on full volume and scare the ever loving sh- out of anyone who is in the room. I HAVE registered the device. What I won't do is download the 2-3 different apps to pair it with Alexa. This is the only thing I have not done. So now I have to unplug it when it is not in use. Then I have to troubleshoot it whenever I decide to use it. It's too, too much work for what it is. I purchased a $49 bluetooth speaker from Ikea that blows this sucker away in both sound quality and user convenience. I have to say overall I am disappointed in how much of a pain this thing is. It should not have to be this complicated. My wife loves her music in the shower, so when her last speaker started to have issues she told me to start looking for something with an even bigger sound. The hunt didn't go far because I received one of those random email from Yahoo that stated something like "The 3 Best Devices on Amazon that you Absolutely Wouldn't Believe for less than $250" and in that article was an absolutely beautiful Marshall speaker. I've been around Marshall guitar amps for a long time, growing up around church musicians, and love their sound and clarity. I was hoping this speaker's sound would deliver on the Marshall name.My hopes were fulfilled. Not only was the speaker clear, it was incredibly loud for it's size. There is one flaw though Like several other reviewers I purchased this speaker thinking that it was a battery-powered Bluetooth speaker. I was WRONG! This speaker only works when plugged in. No matter how long you leave it plugged up, it will not work when unplugged. So when one reviewer said "I couldn’t get the battery to charge on this one...or the replacement Amazon sent out". I got tickled. It only took me 5 seconds to figure out why it wouldn’t turn on.I wish the description was clearer from the manufacturer and Amazon. I now have another wonderful speaker but will now be ordering the Marshall Stockwell or Emberton speaker.*Update 6/14/21*This speaker is a hit at work. Because of the nature of our work, we can't always reach over and change the song or turn the volume down. However, Alexa can! The built-in Alexa with the connection to Spotify and Amazon music is great! Everyone wants one now. The only problem is the fact it isn't wireless and the price.?To summarize my review this is not an Alexa Speaker. It is a Bluetooth speaker with good sound quality that also uses the Alexa SDK so Amazon music works too (because it’s required) The extent of its Alexa functionality is utilizing Amazon’s internal intents (weather, time, etc) and executing routines. Nothing more. For a detailed explanation:I have pros and cons.Cons:#1: This device doesn’t work as an Alexa speaker.I spoke with Amazon support and Marshall support. I setup everything correctly. This device does not support Alexa Skills - Audible, Apple Music, Spotify, Jeopardy - Any available skill in the Alexa app is not available via the Uxbridge. There is no documentation of what skills or alexa functionality is actually supported by the Uxbridge. *Amazon music is available because it’s a requirement of having an “Alexa-enabled device.” It can only access Amazon’s most basic features- what’s the weather?, what time is it?, etc…#2: The Uxbridge misleads you to think it supports Alexa Skills by advertising it’s support of Airplay and Spotify Connect. These services are connected via BLUETOOTH using a separate device, not your voice via Alexa.Examples:—“Alexa, play my Apple Music playlist Today’s Hit’s” Alexa: “Apple music is not supported on this device”.— “Alexa, play my book”Alexa: “Getting Ashley’s book from Audible… Sorry, I’m having trouble playing the book right now”— “Alexa, play Spotify”Alexa: (Thinking mode enabled) No response#3: Marshall Customer Support knows nothing about Alexa, Conversational AI, or their own product’s abilities or limitations. I found myself educating the Marshall customer service representative on how the Alexa SDK works. They obviously don’t actually know how the Uxbridge appears in the Alexa app and they’re just reading from a script.#4: Amazon Support knows nothing about the Uxbridge. Don’t even bother. They will just tell you to check your set up, see if it’s muted, try unpairing and repairing, do you have the Marshall app?, do you have the Alexa app?, etc — it’s condescending and not helpful#5: It is way too expensive to only be a Bluetooth speaker.#6: It was a huge disappointment to learn Marshall limited the Alexa features. If you read up on the SDK, they were just greedy and lazy. Additional features carry guidelines and requirements from Amazon so Marshall did the absolute minimum they had to so they could put the Alexa branding on their products.Pros:#1: The Bluetooth connectivity worked without issue for me. To be fair, I didn’t go far from the device with my iPhone 13 pro max. I literally sat right next to it. *Other reviews say they have had issues but I personally did not.#2: The sound quality is good.#3 It looks really cool. This is not only super cool looking it's loud and clear exactly what you would expect from Marshall. It's so cool we can have this out instead of regular Alexa in our "rock n roll" family room. We play all of our phone music apps through here as well. This was really easy to install too.
