Several of the other reviewers mistakenly seem to think these are gloves for weight lifting. That they are not. These are for gymnastics or related activities, such as when using rings, high bar or uneven bars. They're designed to allow your hands to slip around the bars you have to grip on those different apparatuses without tearing the skin on your palms. If used for their intended purposes, these work just fine. If you want weight lifting gloves to protect your palms from the knurling of barbells and dumbbells--buy weight lifting gloves, not these. About the only exercise I would consider these for is pull-ups, if you feel you need something to protect your hands for that.I've seen better quality gymnastics grips, but they cost more money. If you want a basic pair of palm grips to get started, these will do. If you plan to be involved in gymnastics for years to come, you might want to spend a little more and invest in a more robust pair. The more expensive grips tend to attach to your wrists with mini leather belt buckles instead of Velcro.Note that there are other types of gymnastics grips available that have a dowel in the palm area (which these do not have). They help the gymnast hang onto the bar when swinging horizontally. The grips with dowels are made specifically for either males or females. Since males and females use different apparatuses in gymnastics (high bar for males, uneven bars for females), the size of the dowel is much larger on the grips for males. Check with your coach or someone experienced with gymnastics if in doubt about which kind you should get.Again, these grips that I'm reviewing here do not have a dowel and are basic grips to get you started in the sport of gymnastics. If you're buying grips for a child just starting out, something less expensive like these might be best if the child is still growing or if you're not sure whether they will stick with the sport long term. These basic palm grips are a good value at this price.
