Ever have buyer's remorse? You spring for that luxury purchase that you don't REALLY need, and when you get it home, you feel guilty for wasting so much money. Yeah, we've all been there. After eyeing this thermostat for a very long time and wondering whether or not it would truly be worth the cost of buying two for our house, I finally decided to pull the trigger and buy them. All I can say now is that I have NO buyer's remorse whatsoever! None! Not even a smidgen. In fact, I wish I had bought them sooner. This is, without a doubt, the BEST home purchase I have made in years. This is one of those rare products that will change your life. Yep, they're that good.Like most people, I researched the Nest thermostat along with this Honeywell unit. I own just about everything Apple has ever made, and I love the clean, simple approach to their products. The Nest is built with that same philosophy in mind, and it really is a great looking device. But at the end of the day, the long list of added features this Honeywell unit provides simply won out... and I'm very glad it did. We are totally thrilled with these thermostats. One of our friends who owns the Nest stood staring at our new Honeywell the other day, and his jaw was hanging open ever so slightly when I was showing him the features. I didn't ask, but I'm pretty sure he was experiencing a little buyer's remorse.Installation and setup was a breeze (a little A/C humor there) and connecting both units to our home wifi network couldn't have been easier. The thermostat screen literally walks you through step by step to connect to your network. Seriously, if a person can't set THIS product up, they really don't need to be buying wifi devices! I mean, there's really nothing more Honeywell could have done to make this process ANY easier other than to include an actual technician in the box. But that would definitely drive the shipping costs up!The iPhone/iPad app is completely self-explanatory and you'll immediately know how to use all the features. We've had no connectivity issues whatsoever. Any changes made from the app will transfer to the thermostats in mere seconds. Being able to check the temperature and change our thermostats while lying in bed or watching TV is just glorious! (I hate to admit it, but we Americans really are a spoiled, lazy bunch, aren't we? Too stinkin' lazy to walk 20 feet to check our thermostats.) Still... spoiled or not... it's AWESOME!!And for the first time ever, we can actually SEE the display on our thermostats. What a concept! After years of squinting during the day and using a flashlight at night to try and read the tiny, unlit LCD screen on our old units, the screen on this Honeywell is just heaven! Seriously. The layout of all the buttons and controls is as good as anything I've ever seen. It is big, bright, clear and easy to understand. This is a HUGE step up from what we had before.The screen not only displays the indoor temperature, but the outdoor temperature as well. This is pulled from your local zip code, which you enter when setting up your account. Honeywell's iPhone app allows you to see a full 5-day forecast, which is great... but for some reason, the wall unit does NOT show you this information. It only shows the current outdoor temperature. This is one feature I think Honeywell needs to add. Why shouldn't I be able to stand at my thermostat and tap a button to instantly see my 5-day forecast? Other wifi thermostats offer this, like the Venstar, for example. This would be a welcomed convenience to any home, and I think Honeywell is falling short on this particular feature.Being able to check on our house's temperature when we're out is fantastic. We do have schedules programmed into both thermostats, but sometimes -- quite often, actually -- real life simply doesn't follow those exact schedules. So it's nice to be able to drop the temperature down before backing out of the driveway to go out on the town for the evening, and then, as I'm paying the check in the restaurant after dinner, I pull my iPhone out of my pocket and bump the temperature back up to 72 so the house is perfect when we get home. Just keeping both units from running constantly during times like this is already showing up in savings on our power bill.One odd thing we did experience immediately after installing these was that the indoor temperature displayed 74, even though I know it was nowhere near 74 in the house. I was worried at first, thinking that perhaps we had been given a defective unit. But after about an hour or so, it apparently finished its initial internal setup routine, and it has been spot-on ever since. So if you see this after installing yours, just give it little while.We also experienced an unexpected benefit from these new thermostats. For some reason, the two rooms at the extreme opposite ends of our house (my office and our master bedroom) never ever felt as warm as the rest of the house in the winter, or as cool in the summer. This was only made worse when the door to either of these rooms was closed. It just felt like the air didn't quite push as hard to these rooms or circulate well enough. I always assumed is was bad ductwork. On winter mornings, we would literally walk out of our bedroom and it felt at least 10 degrees warmer just a couple of feet out into the hallway. And our master bath off the back of our bedroom stayed absolutely freezing all winter long. We had just learned to live with it. Well... on the very first night after installing these Honeywell thermostats, we woke up the next morning to a WARM bedroom and bathroom! We were absolutely stunned! Even though the thermostat was set at exactly the same temperature we always had our old one set at (72), our bedroom and bathroom are now actually comfortable on winter mornings. I simply cannot explain this. My only guess is that the setting on these Honeywell units that circulates the air for a little while after the heat shuts off is possibly making this happen. I don't have any idea why this awful problem we've lived with for 15 years was fixed in ONE night... but we sure are glad. This was definitely an unexpected bonus.Well, I've already talked more about thermostats than anyone ever should, so I'll just close by saying that if you are on the fence about buying this unit... just do it! Take it from someone who over-researches everything before I buy it. I went back and forth for months about this purchase, and now that I have these installed in our home, I wouldn't trade them for anything! In fact, I kept both our old thermostats, because if we ever move, I'm going to reinstall the old units and take these babies with me. We LOVE them, and I bet you will too. Great job, Honeywell!!
